Person considering a chess move

The immediate challenge was usually a symptom of something deeper: an organization operating under assumptions, structures or habits that had expired years earlier.

Those 30-day quick hits began turning into 90-day residencies. Solving the visible problem required us to examine the environment around it: the strategy, operations, technology, relationships and decisions that had allowed it to develop.

That work now has a name.

Phantom Power is a systems advisory firm with deep expertise in organized real estate.

The name comes from professional audio, where phantom power is the unseen electrical current that enables a microphone to perform. It reflects the kind of work I have always been drawn to: strengthening what happens without needing to become the center of it. Phantom Power is not the voice. It is what allows the voice to be heard clearly.

It also reflects how I have learned to approach complex organizations.

In a complicated system, what you can see depends partly on where you are standing. Leadership, governance, operations, technology, staff, stakeholders and the market each offer a different view. No perspective has to be wrong. Each may simply be partial.

My own career has given me several positions from which to view this industry. I have worked inside a national portal, a brokerage and a boutique software company. I have learned to navigate organized real estate as a lean operator, a diplomat and an advocate for the entrepreneurialism that fuels it.

But experience also creates biases. I am still one person with one perspective and a finite set of tools. That is why Phantom Power is built around changing position, connecting viewpoints and remaining willing to reconsider the original question before reaching an answer.

Today, that work spans strategic planning, data and technology strategy, executive advisory, organizational collaboration, brand transformation and go-to-market strategy.

In the coming weeks, I’ll use the @Phantom Power page to share more about these services and our perspective on the decisions facing MLS, association and technology leaders.

I hope you’ll follow along.

One system. Multiple perspectives. A clearer understanding.
